The Presidential Teleprompter allows the speaker to address the audience without being blocked from view. Two glass panels are set up on steel rods. Monitors are placed at the bottom of the stands, which displays text and projects them onto the glass for the speaker to view. While he/she can see the text, the audience does not. Instead, they see right through the glass and get a clear view of the speaker. For this reason, the device is sometimes called the “invisible teleprompter”.Since Presidential Teleprompters are mostly used for live events, our operator always brings a backup laptop with prompter software. It is also wise to request that the operator arrive a few hours before show time so that he/she can work with the talent and set up the prompter, and fonts, in a way that is most comfortable for the speaker.

Occasionally, there is a need for several speakers to share the same podium at a live event. They may be of varying heights so that the teleprompter may need to be adjusted up or down for each individual. Having an assistant rush onstage to adjust the prompter height is not a good way to handle this.

Enter the Rise and Fall “Robotic” Presidential Teleprompter. In rehearsal, our operator sets the height of the two glass “paddles” for optimum comfortable reading level for each speaker. Then during the live event, he/she robotically adjusts the prompter height from a nearby location.

A “through-the-lens” setup is most commonly used on video production sets. These are often recognized as the type of prompter used by news anchors.On a very simple level, a teleprompter is a modern display device much like the old fashioned cue cards. The speaker or performer is “prompted” with the visual text of a speech or script.Larger teleprompters should only be used if there is a considerable distance between the unit and the talent, if the talent has very poor eyesight, or if two cameras will be placed behind the glass. If a larger unit is used in any other circumstance, there is a strong likelihood that the eye line will be compromised, therefore the subject’s eyes will shift left to right, making it apparent that the subject is reading a script.Our operators are so adept and familiar with the software that they not only can make adjustments to the copy at rehearsal, but also during a break between shots.

Although it’s common for most speakers to stand behind the podium, some people (performers and singers) prefer to walk around the stage. In cases like this, the Confidence Monitor is the appropriate teleprompter. These are small, flat screen HD monitors which can receive any signal from a teleprompter. They can be placed downstage, offstage or in the back of the room behind the audience. Interrotron Mark III Rental (Director’s Unit and Talent Unit)

The Interrotron Mark III contains two separate units:The Director’s Unit displays a live feed of the talent. The director not only is “face to face” with the talent directly through-the-lens but he/she can simultaneously judge framing, exposure, depth of field, focus, color saturation, etc.The Talent Unit is built on a modified, professional teleprompter platform. But the standard definition VGA teleprompter monitor is replaced by a large HD monitor, sized to correctly display the director’s face in the correct proportion. The talent is more relaxed as they are conversing with a human rather than looking into the depths of a camera lens. The Mark III rig is especially useful with children and inexperienced actors/interviewees. Another option is the Interrotron Mark II ($645/10 Hour Day). This is basically just a talent unit. It does not come with a director’s unit or second camera or professional camera monitor, so while the talent can view the director’s face in front of the lens, the director cannot see talent and must speak into the camera sending the feed to the talent

The EyeDirect functions like the standard Mark III Interrotron in that both talent and director are able to see each other “face to face”. The unit utilizes a mirror system to achieve these results, and does not require any battery or AC power. The unit also comes with an iPad mount, which can be used to turn the device into an iPad teleprompter.The unit comes in a custom-fitted Pelican case which protects it while being shipped. The case weighs 30 lbs and is just a bit larger than the typical airline carry-on bag.
